In terms of Denel’s restructuring, the company has established several independent new companies in which it will hold equity on behalf of the South African Government.

The process to incorporate the new companies is still under way, although the businesses are already being managed as such.  Saab of Sweden have a 20% holding in Denel's aerostructures business and German firm, Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH, has acquired a majority holding in Denel Optronics.

Denel Aviation
A well-established Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, Denel Aviation had been providing support services to the South African Air Force (SAAF) and the South African aviation industry for more than 40 years.
 
Denel Saab Aerostructures
With over 60 years experience in the aerostructures market, Denel Saab Aerostructures is a leading designer and manufacturer of complex metallic and composite aerostructures for the military and commercial aviation sector. It supplies these aerostructures to Original Equipment Manufacturers and other aerostructure suppliers in cooperation with aircraft manufacturers, such as Airbus, AgustaWestland, Boeing and Saab.

Denel Dynamics
Denel Dynamics designs and manufactures missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).  The successful commissioning of its Umkhonto-IR surface-to-air missile systems with the Finnish Navy, including a very successful flight test from the customer's vessel in the Baltic Sea, proved one of the important achievements this year.
 
Denel Land Systems
DLS focuses on landward defence system solutions and is a prime contractor, system integrator, and subsystem and product supplier.  It is renowned for the development, production, maintenance and upgrades of infantry systems, artillery gun systems (like the G5 and G6 systems) and combat turrets, as well as small arms.

Denel PMP
PMP has been involved in the manufacture of ammunition since 1931, and develops and manufactures small to medium-calibre ammunition, brass and copper strip, high quality percussion caps of all types, mining drill-bits as well as power cartridges and cutting charges.
 
Mechem
Historically part of the Land Systems Group within Denel, Mechem has emerged as one of the successful core businesses, notably in the mine action environment.  Mechem provides turnkey landmine removal and contraband detection services to commercial clients all over the world.

OTB is a well established test facility close to the southernmost tip of Africa specialising in the in-flight testing and evaluation of missiles and aviation systems for the local and international aerospace industries.

Denel Properties proudly owns and manages 11 sites in the Gauteng, North West and Cape Provinces. The property values of Denel are in excess of R1billion with income sales of over R240m. DCLD
The Denel Centre for Learning & Development is a well established training institute, accredited by several training authorities and the South African Civil Aviation Authority. DCLD consists of three training sectors: Apprenticeship Department (Aviation and Engineering Industry), Youth Foundation Programme, Advanced and Type Training (Aviation Industry).
